Curator’s Comment:
It’s hard to reconcile your various different approaches to spatial organization and surface texture. I like the visceral, expressive mark-making of New Muddy Orleans very much, but seeing the dominant circular geometric structures in your other works such as Porch Moon make this work appear less considered or methodical by comparison. But the deep patinas of the reddish brown and ochre surface obscuring the cross shape below more than make up for the lack of crisp, clear geometry. There is an aged quality to the worked surface, with earthen pigments and fluctuations in gloss versus matte areas that have a primacy akin to the underlying geometry. The large scale of the actual work also makes me consider its construal or reading as a topographic demarcation of space.
From NY to the U.K., the most comprehensive and respected source for income & exhibition opportunities.
