Curator’s Comments:

These new paintings are light and airy and seem to share few of the formal concerns with the earlier works you’ve posted.  Of this new grouping, I’ve very attracted to the yellow and grey peaked shapes in the work designated 4a. There’s an unexpected illusion of transparency in what initially appears to be an opaque grey form.  The overlapping of the landscape oriented crests suggests a precipice, or escalation of sorts, when taken into account with the dissolving bottom horizontal edge.  The faint traces of organic figurations in the background grounds the elemental shapes, and interrupts their more economic design.  Again, I see this as a visually unexpected juxtaposition of line and mass.  The high chroma color of the yellow in the painting finally keeps the work from feeling subdued or understated, as I feel is somewhat the case with the first painting in this series.  I’ve very happy you’ve shared this new investigation on the site.
