Curator’s Comment:
I believe this piece highlights your dexterity in creating impressionistic pieces, while moving into a more expressive abstraction of space. The picturesque reflective pools of water move my eye through the piece, creating melodic visual ripples of movement. The hues don’t stray too far from local color, but the ochre shades and more intense blues demand a certain force in the reading of the landscape. The placement of the bridge in the upper section anchors all of the undulating lines, and yet doesn’t do much to stabilize or calm the picture plane because of the slight diagonal angle and cropping. That’s not to say the composition isn’t pleasing- quite the contrary. The repeated patterning of the color swatches does organize the visual field, and creates welcome harmony.
