Thank you for the beautiful comment. It reflects the mood of the painting and the moment I painted it very well!

Curator’s Comments:

While I find virtually every piece you have on the site to be a captivating gestalt of gestural figurative line work and bold color patterning, Reflection came up as quite a different type of painting.  Its abstract composition is equally alluring and visually surprising, but the mood is more in line with quiet repose.   The flat black tree shapes take on a figurative substitute, while the overall sensibility of the work remains organic and decorative.  I also appreciate the open space with the creamy blue-green tints. The relative emptiness provides visual rest in the composition, and a soft floating field for the hard-edged cut out shapes. It appears as if the mixed media may entail paper collage into the painterly ground. The clustering of the orange-brown forms at the top of the space suspends the visual weight, as the cooler lighter versions of the roughly circular patterns start to sink into the background. If your other figure drawings are reminiscent of the agitated lines of Schiele, then one can still recall Viennese ornament and with the oval, gem-like inserts in Reflection.
