This seemingly untitled textile has a lot going on with closer viewing. It’s bold and graphic patterning is immediately appreciated, but the nuances of lower chroma color offer more complex compositional relationships. I appreciate the way the orange color blocking moves me through the compartments, and stands at opposite corners of the piece. The circular units also create a rhythmic pattern that breaks out of positive/negative spatial divisions. The square format isn’t exactly even; like the spaces inside, it is slightly irregular and therefore provides unexpected variation. The adjacent piece shares this rather subtle color aesthetic, and the floral inclusions arguable soften the piece further. I do hope you continue to post new work on the site.
