Curator’s Comment:
I find Peligrosa sinuously captivating with its undulating s-curves. (But it isn’t bronze?) The backwards extension of the top of the sculpture gives a sensation that the piece is pulling away from its solid base. Perhaps because the title implies danger that I see it as a natural, or intuitive recoil before a calculated strike. It could also be the proximity of the other snake based work- Slumber. But it is because of this very abstraction of form that I find the piece so powerful- it is not a snake, but is snake-like, and captures the essence of agile organic movement. The hard (stone) medium has a gorgeous luster, which also enhances the supple surface quality. I’m also drawn to the sculpture entitled Nado for similar aesthetic qualities. The work appears to curl in on itself while projecting upward momentum - maintaining a visual dynamic of contrasting movements. The articulated texture enhances the smooth contours and slows down the visual path of the form.
From NY to the U.K., the most comprehensive and respected source for income & exhibition opportunities.
