This sculpture is a statement concerning woman's breast cancer. It is hammered aluminum painted with pink tops. Grass was chosen because it it universal and survives many attempts to undo it's natural existence, whether by fire, drought, animals, floods, etc. It always survives and never surrenders. All proceeds go to woman's breast cancer.

Curator’s Comments:

Thank you for bringing my attention to this new piece.  I appreciate the accompanying narrative, which alerts me to its inspiration.  The choice of grass for its resiliency explains your current shift away from geometric constructions to biomorphic forms. The choice to tightly assemble the grass cluster, rather than expand its horizontal progress, nicely recalls plants that appear to thrive in industrial cracks, against all odds.  However, it also occurs to me that the concept to use biological growth as an agent against a disease characterized by malevolent growth is an interesting twist, and reversal of forces. I always consider the scale of your works, which range from maquette sized to full scale sculptures. While I can picture most, if not all of your work on a larger scale, the more modest dimensions of Pink Grass seem quite right for this intimate and personal piece. The pink tips are an obvious symbolic choice for a work about breast cancer survivors. But the aesthetic choice is unexpected without knowing the content.  The shift in color keeps the piece from being too repetitive, and uniform in texture. In this content, the hammered aluminum base also reflects a more natural sensibility, perhaps also softened visually by the inclusion of the pink tinting above.
