Painted on plaster over panel, this image is of a magnolia which grows in our neighborhood. In our area (southern California) magnolias bloom in January and February. It always amazes me that something like this will bloom in winter. Some trees have profuse blooms on their naked green-gray boughs, looking like fanciful flower arrangements.
