Curator’s Comments:
Play on Color is a compelling encaustic work. It came up in a random search, but I believe I commented on your unusual transfer process some time ago in reference to another piece that shows evidence of decalcomania. The sudden and intense color temperature shifts keep this piece very active visually. I also enjoy the landscape-like configurations in the textures within the organic abstraction. The top portion of more vertically oriented striations sets up a relationship much like a horizon with the bottom section, which travels horizontally across the composition. Rocky formations are evocative of undergrowth or aquatic plants. However, the title of the painting implies that any illusionistic reference to natural forms may be happenstance- the experimental process is the sole intended content. I realize the work was posted a couple of years back, and I wondered if you’ve continued exploring these techniques. I would love to see your recent imagery.
