Curator’s Comments:

The vibrantly jewel-toned Ravens Hold On came up randomly on the site, and was posted back in 2012.  I was lured into the piece’s dramatic shifts between warm ochre and red hues in the leafy ground, and the saturated ultramarine framing the head of the raven. The ambiguous shape in the lower right presents as both foliage and bird; the tapering wing shapes splay out to suggest a larger leaf.  The sweeping diagonal yellow-green streaks in the bottom of the picture create movement, in contrast to the more static primary subject.  I’m also attracted to the woven textures in the background.  They layer smaller intricacies into the bold composition. It’s a handsome digital piece, offering tactile sensations of fleeting beauty and strength.
