Riverside excavates details from suburban Florida. Google earth maps of my neighborhood mimic the coral patterns under the ground on which our houses are built. Roseate spoonbills, herons, jellyfish and coral fans once thrived in the slow moving river called the Everglades. They now share their home with me and my neighbors. Our natural surrondings are compartmentalized and decorated with palm trees. We have divided them with canals, streets and arterials. The pulse of traffic on University Drive now has a stronger flow than the Everglades.

Riverside is a gorgeous work- the delicately responsive lines and pale colors are clearly signatures of your work.  The strong skeletal spinal column in many of your drawings takes on a metaphysical quality, as the anatomical relationship between your inner and outer landscape is realized.  The white tendrils of coral are simply exquisite in the bottom right section.  They fade into the ground and pull more intense blue hues towards the tips, which become tenuous extensions of the spine.  I enjoy the dissolution of natural forms, as well as the more identifiable birds and trees.  But I do find your statement curious and thought provoking, as it implies a symbiotic relationship rather than a destructive infringement of industry on nature.   The work possibly suggests a cooperative relationship. But the dense compartmentalization of the architecture- beautifully integrated into the piece- could also speak to encroachment, mutation, or even disease.  It may be that each viewer brings her own ideas about dissonance and harmony with nature to this piece.  Perhaps I’m looking for a dark edge to this floating world of light.
