Curator’s Comments:

The Privacy Fence introduces an interesting concept- be it an evident voyeuristic fascination with our neighbors.  The painting itself employs dynamic primary color and gesture to draw the viewer into the partially obstructed environment.  From a purely formal and organizational standpoint, the white slotted fence posts bend at slightly counter angles to the opening in the architecture.  Blocks of textural green and blue move me through the space, without creating too much visual emphasis on the actual characters. I like that the human figure appears distinctly calm surrounded by her animated and potentially menacing cats.  There’s a certain psychological equilibrium in these dispositions. I also appreciate the multiple ways in which you organize the picture plane; color seems to be a hallmark of conflicted moods and sensibilities.  For example, Council of Clones and Parking Lot have dramatically different value patterns- a quiet low contrast image results.  Other pieces, like Privacy Fence, vibrate with almost volatile intensity. I admit that I prefer the later piece, as it’s layered with whimsical and subtly provocative content. (Admittedly, it could also be that I live with five cats of my own.)

"Thx for the like Kristen. This Privacy Fence series has been interesting. We think we know our neighbors but do we really know what goes on behind their "Privacy fences".
