Curator’s Comments:

Swarm (for 4.3.10) has some of the properties of a color field painting- the expanse of space on a human scale may overtake the viewer as an environment of subtly shifting color. The dot pattern holds greater ambiguity as it is intuitively understood (by title) as a questionably randomized occurrence of nature. Just as in a swarm of bees, the dots become a powerful force when exponentially increased in number. While the single unit has individual value or function, a swarm is a decidedly more chaotic entity. There is also the visceral connotation of sound amplified, despite the muted and soft color arrangement.  I’m also quite fond of the square format, as it compounds a dynamic equilibrium of equality, or balance.  Because of the contrast of value, and the more regular interval of dots, Swarm 3.8.10 is a similarly enigmatic piece.   I perceive this image as more calculated and determined; controlled but certain.  The concentration of higher chroma warm dots in the center, dissipating along the edge, suggests a visual pulse.
