Curator’s Comments:

This clear and airy photograph has a strong graphic and diagrammatic presence as the knife-life silver projection slices through the clouds.  It is a bit disorienting as the viewer tries to make out the subject of the work.  But it is this manipulation of the ordinary that something visually extraordinary happens.  While the natural sunlight reflects on the objects, they also seem strangely suspended and untouched by the elements, having an otherworldly existence. It feels less about the subject than the design. The work entitled Eye on the Forest is appealing for its similar attributes.  The silvery edges of the feathers creates a web of interlocking lines, blurring the perception of individual- and ubiquitous - objects. The upper right section begins to form a moiré pattern as the angles of lines change and then revert back in on them. I especially like the subtle transition of background color which seems to leak through the wispy quills. The color temperature shifts from cool blue to warmer brown and then white, create luminous movement and visual interest.  These images are both more than the sum of their parts.
