Acryllic and oil painting of the Danish island Nekseloe near Sealand. Painted on the 3 of january, since I cannot resist this strange urge to paint landscapes for the time being, although it is very old fashioned and out of date.
Label: Acryllic and Oil paint on canvas, 50 x 64 cm. Painted on 3. of January 2013.

Curator’s Comments:
It’s refreshing to view the painting Nekseloe, an Island in the midst of Winter in this rising heat of summer (where I am in the east coast of the US). I particularly like the dark line of brush in the middle ground, which creates another implied horizon, and echoes the more atmospherically hazy line where the violet water meets a similarly hued sky. The choppy painting marks throughout the work add movement and drama to the otherwise still composition; the density of clouds surpassing the weight of the ground. I also quite enjoy the piece entitled Blue Bird, and after looking through the other pieces you have on the site I remembered admiring your paintings on dark grounds some year back. Blue Bird is much more economic in design, but I’m stuck by the relationship between the saturated, high chroma red-orange outline against the inky blue space. The complementary hues create focal areas of emphasis, and nicely offset the quieter space. These two works are quite divergent stylistically, but the edginess of the shapes in both pieces draw interest and offer complexity of organic form. I’m glad I went back and re-read your statement about this dual means of expression. I believe in both you have achieved your sublime.
