Curator’s Comments:
These highly saturated and perhaps idealized landscapes push almost into abstraction. Tanglewood in particular, seems overcome by the writhing twists and turns within the tree branches; echoing the densely composed greenery below. The elongated tree trunks thread upward through what appears to be a web of somewhat evenly spaced interstices. Small white areas offer visual relief from the overall movement. While the actual dimensions of the piece aren’t noted, it looks as though the format is an elongated vertical; exaggerating the tradition golden rectangle proportions. This more decorative patterning of space as opposed to straight depiction is quite pleasurable, offering the viewer the sensation of the natural world as a source of a barely perceptible cosmic design.
