Curator’s Comment:

Forgoing the dominant and prevalent radial symmetry in your on-site portfolio, The Cradle of Knowledge is still dynamically designed with repetition of form.  Rather than relegating the high chroma hues to geometric or ornamental patterning, the extreme temperature shifts in hot and cool hues throughout the piece bring forth a robust movement and graphic energy.  The skulls suggest a calculated and controlled rotation in space, but as they float through a field of saturated organic matter, the image feels more impassioned than didactic. Media and scale aren’t identified, and I do wonder if digital or analog painting processes were employed.  Either way, I also appreciate the elongation of the horizontal format which exaggerates the linear progression of the heads.  The work’s title suggests a narrative of human evolution and thought.  To this end, the slight tilt or angle of the skulls further animates them in space and possibly in consciousness, and thus creates stirring dialog with the viewer.
