"A tea ceremony is commonly performed by Geisha at the beginning of their 5 year apprenticeship. The manner in which it is performed, or the art of its performance, is called otemae. Zen Buddhism was a primary influence in the development of the tea ceremony."

I enjoyed your accompanying written narrative about the influence of the traditional tea ceremony on your painting, but for me the strength of this piece seems to lie in expressionistic color and gesture rather than what I imagine as a formal tradition.   But admittedly the background provided did entice me to look more closely at the figures, and imagine the contents of the boxes within them.   Visually, the painting enjoys a flame-like energy and movement, breaking apart what could be landscape or architecture with stunning streaks of saturated color. I also see it roughly divided in half, with mostly vertical elements on the left of the composition.  Nowhere to Go presents a further dissolution of the same type of space, with the figures dissipating into abstract pattern below the amorphous color patches above.   I noticed that you identified yourself as being from Leipzig, and am curious if you have any feelings about the New Leipzig School of painting, and its ambiguous relevance to the third generation of abstract figure painters today?
