Curators Comments:

Tulip Series (1c) sets itself apart from some of the other photographs of the glorious field of flowers because of its contrasting lines of visual movement.  While the horizontal bands of saturated color create natural patterns of interest, the break in compositional orientation from the vertical and diagonal elements relieves the expected trajectory.  The taller trees shooting up on the right of the horizon line add an asymmetrical area of emphasis. The darker green color also offsets the rainbow hues below.  The purplish red tulips in the foreground appear perfectly formed, while their choreographed sway to the right creates movement before the middle and back rows straighten due to the blurring of individual blooms. .
