Hi Kristen,  I just came across your comments, and thank you for your very interesting insights and perspective.  I included this piece (without the border) in one of the digital billboard public art exhibits I created a few years ago.  The exhibits appeared along public highways, in cities from coast to coast.

I enjoy exhibiting my art on new and exciting media and substrates.  I have a short video of one of the billboard exhibits that took place in California.  I created over one hundred and thirty pieces of art for this exhibit to present a dream sequence of a Geisha who encounters a mythical dragon.  The dragon takes her on a journey of her imagination, to foreign cultures that she would never actually be allowed to visit.

Curator’s Comments:

Trees crackles with the energy of high chroma color, abstracting the organic forms with its saturated hues.  I actually first saw the erratic lines as white fissures or breaks in the vivid color fields.  Even the green hue, coming closest to local color, appears metallically synthetic, or unreal.  I especially like how the deeper red color appears on the periphery of the picture plane, as the branches push to the edges of the foliage.  While the piece looks to have strong graphic impact as a billboard design, the complexity of the interior space might be better appreciated close up. But it’s also curious that the image seems to be expanded or elongated on the large scale, which also excludes the blue bordered frame entirely. No doubt the line and color relationships are affected by viewing format. I do hope you’ll consider posting more work on the site.
