Curator’s Comments:
I found it pleasingly ironic to come across Turkey Disco- The Last Dance as I prepare for the Thanksgiving holiday in the US. While the piece was created several years ago, I remember being enamored with your more colorful and exuberant compositions, and commenting on My Cosmic Hat. Turkey Disco is quite a different composition, presenting an unceasing expanse of organic brown bodies in vast assembly. The descending figural forms begin with cool blue hues in the negative space, and ultimately dissolve into textural red and black amalgamations. There’s a disturbing aspect to the breakdown in forms, as they move from smooth and cleanly processed turkey (carcasses) to indiscriminate dark pools of matter. While the media isn’t cited on your posts, I imagine this image to be digitally created. The photographic sensibility removes the artist’s hand from the image, and presents the subject in a rather mechanical way. I would be very interested to learn of your motivations for the creation of Turkey Disco- The Last Dance, and others, and hope you will consider adding new work to the site.
