Curator’s Comment:  

 

I confess I may be overly suspicious of spectacular photographs of spectacular places; much preferring the beauty captured in the banal or overlooked landscape.  That being said, Fallen utilizes an interesting perspective on a downed tree, inviting the viewer into the throes of the upturned roots, twisting the line of sight out into the unrelenting sea.  The muted color palette accentuates the value contrast, placing secondary emphasis on the thinner delicate branch hovering just above the water line and completing a strong diagonal movement in the composition.
