18x26" oil on canvas
This painting holds a very special place for me. In '72, I moved into my first apartment in Manhattan on E.10th St. On Sundays I loved to ride my bike to the financial district because there where almost no cars to contend with. The photo I used for this painting was taken on one of those rides. It was taken before the towers where occupied. In the foreground the construction site for one of the other buildings (I believe it was Trade Center7) bears an eerie similarity to ground zero after the attack. Amazingly, just left of center, there is a perfect cross that was in the photo, which was backlit through the debris. I didn't add it.
On September 11th, I was freelancing on 15th St. and watched their destruction from a roof garden. You could say that I was there for both the birth and death of the World Trade Center.
I dedicate this painting to all of the victims and their loved ones. Never Forgotten.
