I enjoy all of the new figure drawings you’ve recently posted on the site, but I’m perhaps most attracted to this untitled mixed media piece.  The diagonal semi-reclining pose and somewhat arduous line quality infuse the figure with strained tension.  While the relatively thin graphite lines keep the form in motion rather than heavily anchored within the picture plane, the rough disconnected patches of watercolor add an edgy dissonance.  The looping gestural marks in her central torso also contribute to the visual instability. The figure could readily change position or spring into motion, collecting and mobilizing her many scattered pieces.
