Curator’s Comments:

Popping up in a random image search, I enjoyed revisiting your portfolio.  I was most attracted to your last entry on the site- this enumerated portrait (Untitled 88). There is an interesting angst with the expression, and large stylized head.  The simplification of the form with stretched out gestural lines and tinted colors maintains a light optimism throughout your strongly graphic signature style.  But the eyes on this particular figure are vaguely discordant, and make one question the nature and intent of the distortion. I also feel the tilted gesture- leaning in- adds a psychological urgency or focus.  The soft shadows, assumingly airbrush, sculpt dimension into what would otherwise be a flat caricature.  But I feel these values are also slightly mysterious, as they don’t adhere to the anticipated light source.  I really appreciate the quirkiness of these characters.  They are deceptive in the initial appearance of simplicity; it’s as if they are being simultaneously pushed and pulled away from a static and singular expression.  I do hope you continue to post more of them on the site.
