Curator’s Comments:

The delicate lines loping through the more robust gestures in this abstract piece can easily be overlooked in a thumbnail image.  Viewing the larger piece on my monitor, I can appreciate the fluid transitions in the oil media, which smoothly vacillate between scrawled lines and wash.  The untitled numerical designation doesn’t offer the viewer further insight into the imagery, but I do get a sense of duality between the two circular forms at the top of the piece that appear to be supported by similar vertical marks.  This organization through loose symmetry is nicely balanced by the haptic, and intuitive mark-making.  The scale indicated presents the work in an arguably human scale- not preciously small, or an expansive environment. I also like the decision to leave a thin border and reveal the deckled edge of the paper.  It suggests a reading of the work as both image and object.  Looking back through your other pieces on the site, I remember admiring the thickly built up paper surfaces in your mixed media works originally posted, which likely accentuate this sculptural relief.  Please do consider sharing new works if you’re still active on the site, and are able. I would be very interested to see what you’re working on now.
