urban mist

Curator’s Comments:
Urban Mist caught my attention since the grounding of the vertical elements in the bottom of the piece reference an urban skyline, and slows down my visual movement through the space. While the painting utilizes both hot and cold high chroma colors seen in your other works I feel the green stabilizes the extreme temperature shifts and also suggests greenery, or foliage in contrast to the abstract urban structures. I also enjoy how this image balances the saturated hues with a softer tinted palette- the pale yellow in the background/upper area both suggests natural sunlight by its placement, and allows for some visual rest. Urban Skyline, while superficially similar in composition and color scheme, has a more acidic yellow as its background. The choppy brushstrokes (or knife marks?) offer quite a different rhythm than the streaming blended marks in the previous piece. While it also exerts some subtle atmospheric shifts, the mood is more agitated, and perhaps reflects the inherent anxiety and excitement of an urban environment.
