Curator’s Comments:
I’ve admired these multi-part composite pieces before, but Vena Cava particularly resonates with National-centric imagery in the news. The American flag in the upper left and money sign at the bottom center assume roles as focal elements, perhaps because of their graphic impact and immediate symbolic recognition. The surrounding frames appear to highlight what could be summed up as human feats and folly- but perhaps I’m reading too much into the sequence, and a narrative association isn’t in fact the intent. The muted color palette injects a neutral voice into the work, proposing certain objectively in delivery of information. It occurs to me the imagery could in fact be random. But the title asserts the images, collectively, are arteries or conducts of a larger life force.
