The loose brushwork in many of your landscapes invites an open and airy feel. However, this painting has an interestingly denser foreground and background on either side of the open beach path in the middle. The lighter sand color and value provide a welcome visual rest from the active contrast in the adjoining spaces. The clouds alternately hold a surprising amount of visual weight, hovering steadily just above the lush blue-violet expanse of the sea. Creating a moving diagonal thrust in the work, the gesture nicely counterbalances the stable horizon of the ground. The compositional choice to open up the pathway out of the thick brush at the bottom right of the piece is another effective spatial decision. It allows the viewer to travel freely in and out of the enjoyable space.
