12/2016- Acrylic on 16"x20" canvas board- I painted the clouds to look like teeth getting flossed at the bottom left since I dislike winter as much as I dislike going to the dentist.

The short description you have accompanying this new painting made me laugh!  But the merger of clouds and teeth are in my mind exactly what sets this surreal piece apart.  The distinctive fusion of disparate, albeit organic forms create a surprising joining of inanimate objects to suggest animation. The movement between the atmosphere and anchoring teeth appears to accelerate in the distance as the spheres form an articulated band.   But the movement in the front of the picture plane is slower, and offers a sensation of stillness and floating weight.  I was somewhat surprised to see this piece was also created in traditional acrylics.  The graduation of value in the clouds is gradual, and I would liken the transitions to digital modification.  But on closer examination the small amount of irregularity in the spheres belies a mechanical or digital process.  They are obviously individually rendered.  Likewise, the small amount of grounding landscape in warmer, painterly hues sets up a figure-ground relationship in what otherwise might be read as a non-objective piece.
