Cool! I'm very much in support of your goals, it'll make your work more unique and flexible. I don't know how much your school emphasizes life drawing, but if they don't, I recommend the self-training described by J. Aristides in her book Classical Drawing Atelier: 1-copying black & white photos, 2-drawing from casts in B&W, 3-drawing from color photos, 4-drawing from live models. Copying may sound boring, but it develops your eye, and you may find it's fun to replicate your favorite masterpieces, I did. It's the way all masters started.
LIfelike Heads by Lance Richlin is also a terrific resource.
Thanks very much for your compliment. I aim for 3-dimensinal illusions, and to make my people look like they're breathing by finding the beauty in them. I hope this helps, and please ask questions any time.
HI Kenneth, welcome to the two groups. How can we help you in taking it to the next level? I like your graphite botanical/still life drawings: the compositions and the luminosity. I'm not knowledgable about animation characters, someone else for sure can advise/help you on those. All the best, Laurel
