Dear Grace, Thank you for kind remarks, I don't know which medium I like the most. I love to draw and have a passionate love affair with pencil on paper hence the “tour de force” drawings of historic buildings I get a 3' x 4' piece 100% rag paper and I dive in. When I was drawing East Hampton's " Hook Mill" (a grist mill built in 1806 by Nathaniel Dominy V who designed it after English "Smock" mills with one caveat the "cap" can turn into the wind) I had just finished the body of the mill and I started on the sky so I casually timed myself on how long it would take to do the sky and it timed out at 104 hours. So you see I get a wild hair and throw myself into my art work and it takes as long as it takes. In answer to your question I get inspiration from many sources and having learned many techniques one of the many types of media I know one speaks to me louder than all the others, so I have taught myself to listen. As a student in college I would spend three hours in the morning sculpting in clay from the figure and three hours in the afternoon drawing from the figure. In order to survive I made my way through collage doing watercolors for architects using forced perspective to dramatize the house,( usually an ant’s eye view) the houses sold and so did the watercolors in making those sales I developed a reputation for watercolors which are unquestionably rooted in drawing, but when I am asked I call myself a sculptor. Dear Grace, The organic form is wonderfully exciting the monochromatic quality of the low luster glaze enhances the form. I was wondering if you ever thought of using the same applications of piercing on slab wear? Also the bowls are reminiscent of Muslim Art. All the best.
