"Curator’s Comments:   393 The All American Girl is an intriguing image. Seemingly constructed from several different photographic sources, the resulting picture is both seamless and multi-faceted. As a part of your Iconic Americana…"

Artist
Art has always been part of my life, although my formal studies came later.
Early on I studied at the Univer-sity of Vermont earning my BS. I lived and studied for several years in Oslo, Norway to learn the language and culture.
After this I decided to travel and experience as much of the world as I could. To absorb dif-ferent cultures and languages.
I worked onboard a ship, trav-eled the world, and continued my adventures in Norway, Germany, and the Islands of St. John, and Grand Cayman in the Caribbean.
After my travels I returned to school to study fine art and graphic design.
During these years I always carried a camera, learned mostly about black and white film and spent hours in the darkroom.
When digital became a part of the universe I learned that I could combine my passion for photography with my love for painting.
The two became a part of my vocabulary and I haven’t look back.
I mix all the skills I have painting, printmaking, drawing and photography to organize this chaos on a single panel.
Mixed Media is my medi-um and my work is contempo-rary.
Most of the photos I shoot myself and often mix with vin-tage images to create a sense of familiarity.
The vision for my art ar-rives from my life experi-ences, my love for learn-ing and need for adven-ture and a true respect for my own culture.
The phrase from Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz “There is no place like home” hits me in my sole. She was right, traveling has taught me that.
So my focus has become Americana, all its Iconic images past and present. I am still traveling mostly in the US and find places that seem to have stood still in time, so pure.
One of these images can bring us to different places and back in a glance and create that feeling of com-fort, mystery and pride. I hold these images close to my heart.
