McFarland earned a BS in Computer Information Systems and Studio Art from Humboldt State University in 2002, and an MFA in Photography from California College of the Arts in 2004.<br /> <br /> Sean's solo exhibitions include White Columns, New York City, Jack Hanley Gallery, San Francisco. His work has been included in shows at the San Jose Museum of Art, Indianapolis Museum of Contemporary Art and Art/Miami/Basel. Among his awards are a fellowship to the National Photography Institute at Columbia University, 2004, fellowship and residency at the Kala Art Institute in Berkeley, CA, 2009 and the Baum Award for Emerging American Photographers, 2009. Selected reviews include The San Francisco Chronicle, Artweek, and Artforum.
