Thank you for your critique concerning KSS11R. Trying to finish a small sculpture, but found it to be more complicated than I expected. All the best for now, and thank you again.

Curator’s Comments:

Thank you for bringing this new piece to my attention- I always enjoy seeing the evolution of your studio practice, and how your sculptures formally connect with your two-dimensional works. KSS11R shares the dynamic tension and movement I’ve come to expect and appreciate in your abstract paintings.  This current work does seem particularly line driven, as the repeated diagonals and arcs feature a heavy black linear measure.  The spokes radiating from the circularly pattern at the top of the composition suggest a crown, on a vaguely figurative formation.  Of course I can also intimate a reference to architectural elements in the grid below, which functions as a stabilizing ground for the competing gestural arcs. Color appears more broken and open than I’m accustomed to seeing in your paintings and drawings, which more often feature a closed value pattern.  I prefer this approach, as it fosters the directional shifts in the piece rather than encapsulating shapes and articulated boundaries.  The large scale of the physical canvas no doubt impacts the viewers’ sense of movement, which can’t be fully appreciated in this digital form.  I continue to see a sort of aesthetic optimism in your work, as it’s usually employing an upward trajectory and confidence in moving disparate elements through space. The strong use of primary color is also a fresh and bold palette. Thank you for sharing this latest piece.
