Hello Dennis, thank you for bringing this new piece to my attention. I’ve always thought you had a highly recognizable signature style, with rather nuanced shifts within geometric and kinetic elements.  The drawings posted within the last few years pushed this streamlined sculptural aesthetic into a more illusionistic space, and into exploratory and haptic mark-making. But this new sculpture shows a completely fresh take on a much more representational form.  The skillful dexterity of your metalwork is still on full display, as the horse form is animated by the tangle of crossing lines and bars.  The downturned gesture of the head beautifully counters the outward splay of the legs, pushing and pulling at the same time.  Because of the subject matter, the piece recalls Deborah Butterworth’s fragmented bodies of horses assembled by gestalt.  However, Silver Storm appears considerably more compact, exuding strength and power contained within a fairly small body.  It’s interesting that the abraded metal texture of the base suggests the pawing motion of the animal’s legs and hooves, rather than a purely formal treatment of the materials.  Do you see yourself working on a new series of these works, or is it a stand-along sculpture in terms of the subject?
