Curator’s Comments:

Hello Dennis, thank you for alerting me to the creation of your new piece entitled Omega Point. Accustomed to recognizing architectural elements in your sculptural practice, I nonetheless appreciated your comment specifically referencing a Japanese Torii as a gateway figure.  I see the aesthetic connection, which is reenforced by the primacy of the austere color palette and simplicity of the overall design.  Similar to the sculpture your recently shared entitled Longhorn, the positioning of separate objects sharing a broader platform base sets up a spatial installation rather than singular, connected form. The gate structure also takes on a figural connotation, and as such I find myself contemplating its relationship to the small adjacent object, which looks like a lidded vessel.  The pendular metal rod hanging from the center axis of the torii also looks as though it could be a bell striker, in keeping with the ceremonial influence. I also find my attention lingers on the pink hook at the top of the pendulum, as it is a somewhat conspicuous color choice within the sculpture. Overall, I like the piece very much.  It offered multiple readings of iconic shapes, and your formal decisions appear to have been made within a broader, global context. Thank you for sharing this new piece.  I look forward to seeing how your next sculpture will evolve.
