Curator’s Comments:
I remember admiring some of your full color violin images a while back, and now am enjoying taking another look at this print- numerically designated 12. The monochromatic color palette transmits a slightly less whimsical quality in the dissolution of the form. I enjoy the broken radial symmetry to the composition as well, as it creates a push and pull between the stability of space and more dynamic movement. The darker- not quite negative- space in the bottom of the piece provides a visual anchor, and suspends the weight of the abstracted circular bands. I would like to see a closer detail of the surface, as it looks to include both intaglio wiped lines and aquatint and a top rolled inking, or possibly chine colle. But whatever techniques used, the work exhibits a fluid gestalt of shapes and tones that is pleasing to the eye.
