Curator’s Comments:
I positively respond to the varying degrees of dense mark-making in this new batch of figure drawings. Untitled, the concentration of orange and pink scribbled lines in the back of the head cause me to linger longer, and take in the visual weight and complexity of the form. The thin lines trailing from the shoulder are looser, and suggest the natural fall of the arms. The tension of the pose is similarly captured in other pieces; as quick gestural contours give way to more solid and fleshy mass. The last drawing in this new series (the reclining pose) is particularly sensual. The languid pose vacillates between an open and closed value pattern in its approach. While I find these pastel works more academic than the soft ground etchings that follow, which I also admire, they exhibit an emotional empathy with the model.
From NY to the U.K., the most comprehensive and respected source for income & exhibition opportunities.
