The hopes and failures of the human condition; the ethereal nature of presence and spirit; subtle interventions upon the every day; and 'the Romantic'. These regions constitute the conceptual basis for Jones's practice.

Darren Jones is a Scottish artist based in the new world capital of New York City and also Dunfermline, the ancient capital city of Scotland.

His work has been the subject of numerous gallery and museum exhibitions internationally. In 2010 he represented Scotland and the USA at the Moscow Biennial of Young Art (Moscow Museum of Modern Art) and in 2009 he represented Scotland at the Queens International Biennial (Queens Museum of Art, NY).

Recent solo exhibitions include, The Burns of Sorrow and Care,251 Greene Street Gallery, Connecticut, USA (2012); Wait of the Nation: Gravitational Effects on the Local Galactic Plane, Queensferry Gallery, Edinburgh, Scotland (2012); and Wraith, Museum of Russian Art, Jersey City, USA (2012)

Jones is the recipient of a Fife County Council Art and Heritage Grant (2009); and a Scottish International Education Trust Award (2007). He was nominated for a Rema Hort Mann Foundation Award (2011) and the 3rd Ward Gallery Pernod Solo Show (2008).

Jones also works as a curator. Recent ventures include, The Piers: Art and Sex Along the New York Waterfront, Leslie Lohman Museum of Gay and Lesbian Art, New York (2012) with Jonathan Weinberg; Industrial Aesthetics: Environmental Influences on Recent Art from Scotland, Hunter College Art Galleries, New York (2011). This project constitutes the largest exhibition of contemporary Scottish art ever shown in the United States; and Writes of Passage: Human Communication and the Written Word, Trinity Museum, New York, with Phenomena Project (2011). Jones also writes on art and culture for various publications.
