While I‘d previously admired your other digital figural distortions, I didn’t initially recognize Unconscious as belonging to that body of work. The bold and graphic achromatic value pattern breaks up the body in space without necessarily stretching its familiar proportions and form. The cropping of the head and lower torso also serve to abstract the body through fragmentation, but the subject still exerts visual strength and stability. The title nicely plays off the back view of the figure- suggesting the unknown and unseen is just beyond our sight. I find the appearance of parts of the hands/fingers coming through on both sides nicely informs the frontal gesture of the subject, and gives clues to mood and stance. This first image in the Unconscious series is arguably the most simplistic compositionally, but nicely sets up the subsequent other experimentations in its unyielding assertion of a human presence.
