International Deadline: July 7, 2014 - The National Art Museum of Sport announces its 4th Annual International Commitment to Excellence in Art & Sport Fine Art Competition. Open to artists 18 and over worldwide who create fine art with a sport subject in three categories: 2D/Not Photography, 3D and Photography.
NAMOS seeks museum-quality art depicting sport that goes beyond the images seen in the media. It strives to spur artists to create work that expresses the essence of sport whether it is action, excitement of competition, rewards of teamwork, or the honor of playing by the rules. It is a competition that values little known sports as much as those that dominate the airwaves.
JURORS
Adrienne Ruger Conzelman, Jean Marie Cote and Andrew Schoelkopf will select 30 pieces for an exhibit September 7 to November 3, 2014, in the New Canaan Historical Society, New Canaan, Conn. They will also be featured in a downloadable, digitalized illustrated catalogue.
AWARDS
Jurors will choose three medalists in each of the three categories - 2D/Not Photography, 3D and Photography - and three $2,500 award winners.
The awards will be the Germain G. Glidden Best of Show prize, the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Honoring Academic and Athletic Excellence in Painting award and the NCAA Honoring Academic and Athletic Excellence in Sculpture award. The NCAA is a sponsor of the competition.
To qualify for one of the two NCAA awards, the art must evoke collegiate athletes intersection with academics, past or present, in one of the NCAA sports: baseball, basketball, bowling, cross country , fencing, field hockey, football, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, track and field, lacrosse, rifle, rowing, skiing, soccer, softball, swimming and diving, tennis, volleyball, water polo, and wrestling.
