Resident Curator, Thank you so much for your positive comments. You really got what I strive for in my sculpture.
Curator’s Comments:
I’m attracted to the suspension of natural weight in these sculptures; Equilibrium and Balance in particular exploit a delicate equalization between substantial mass and elemental gravitational force. The surface treatment of the piece evokes iron erosion or a naturally occurring patina in beautiful contrast to the smoothly polished base and small crown piece. I also see a vessel like quality in the overall form, or a departure from a utilitarian container or folk/tramp box. Equilibrium pushes the weight further up, as if a fully inverted pyramid. While medium and dimensions aren’t provided, the piece appears to be a bronze with textural surface oxidation. This adds to its timeless appearance, and insinuation that natural forces are constantly at work, slowly undermining human effort.
