Curator’s Comments:
I'm attracted to this portrait that came up on the site today (designated 03). The fleshy gestural marks poetically blur the identity of the figure, while maintaining an ephemeral physical presence. The smudgy blackness peeking through the lighter pinkish color reads as shadow, hair, and shirt, respectively. It also appears as though there could be some cooler blue-green hues under the final pigment layer. While the artists hand is entirely present in this painterly approach, the composition's placement of facial features mimics the other seemingly photographically generated images of the same subject. It may be 03 originated as a photograph. Looking through some of your other pieces on the site, I'm struck by the contrast between your raw text-based works, design oriented typography and the more viscerally constructed portraits. While they offer very distinct sensory experiences, I would concede that these different approaches suggest something deeper percolating under the surface.
From NY to the U.K., the most comprehensive and respected source for income & exhibition opportunities.
