Curator’s Comments:
Sankt Moritz is a stimulating landscape. The jagged edged abstraction nicely counters the soft, lightly graduated cool hues in the sky, and shocks of bright pink terrain. Sense of place is communicated by the title of the piece, and perhaps by specific topographic formations for those more familiar with the landscape. I’m intrigued by the specificity of the shapes within the mountainous expanse. Media and physical dimensions aren’t indicated beyond the inclusion of the work within a portfolio of drawings, and so I imagine the viewer would have a different relationship with the work depending on its scale. Corvatsch seems to be handling similarly, and looking at its further break up of a formidable mountain I’m reminded of digital programs that use color distortions/glyphing and GIS patterning to describe geographic complexity. I assume these drawings are hand manipulated because of the slight textural variations, and so the tactile relationships between the contrasting edges are more pronounced. I’m curious about your process, and do hope you consider adding more work to the site.
