Curator’s Comment:
Cash Wash (Copy) is strangely appealing- instilling an ordinarily mundane activity with turbulent energy. The dynamic broken color moves indiscriminately throughout the scene, creating intense movement and heightened articulation of all surfaces. Even the air is charged- linear scrawlings pervade and fill the background, forming a dense physical texture. There are gorgeous passages of color- small bits of limey green against the brown, blue and purple car hood stand out as painterly vignettes, transcending the objects they describe. I do find the central female figure curious in her overly frontal position in the center of the picture plane. She commands the viewers’ attention in all manners, from her scale, direct gaze, to the car’s wiper blades pointing back to her. Looking at your other pieces on the site which include various subjects, it seems the pleasurable act of making an image supersedes the expressive content of the particular forms.
