Curator’s Comments:
I’m curious about this apparently untitled but expressive painting you have on the site. I usually like to comment on an image in the context of a larger body of work, but the inclusion of the studio scene doesn’t reveal much more about your creative process beyond scale of similar paintings. The previous image appears to incorporate collaged or digital inclusions, despite the suggestive grouping of easel paintings in the first shot. But I’m most drawn to this inventive composition which combines urban landscape with very abstracted figurative elements. For me it suggests some of the wit and irony of Phillip Guston. The large balloon head rising up from the buildings is not exactly threatening, but slightly ominous in its caricature shape and theatrical scale. The brushy paint work in the background is by contrast complexly layered and gestural, expertly marrying warm and cool color. Small red bursting shapes could depict a landscape in flames along with very small human forms; quite a volatile activity for an otherwise cool and vaguely whimsical overseer. I do hope you’ll post new work on the site, if only to provide more clues into this highly imaginative work, and conceived environments.
