Curator’s Comments:
It’s always a pleasure to view your new sculptures on the site. Thank you for sharing this new piece and inviting my comments! I see Cadence as a fluid continuation of your distinct sculptural practice, involving multiple geometric cantilevered pieces. The achromatic whiteness of this work is somewhat unique, and I appreciate the way it unifies the central structure and arms with the square extensions. The regularity of the stepped projections slows down the visual movement through the structure a bit, and allows the viewer to consider the rivets and other points of mechanical attachment. The smooth and circular base is easy on the eye, and encourages a sense of kinetic revolution. The musical inspiration of cadence affirmed in your comment additionally supports the impression of sequential modulation. As with your other maquette and modest scaled sculptural works, despite the dimensions noted I still envision Cadence as a giant in space.
