The hot, saturated oranges and pinks bring robust energy and verve to this portrait. The face is somewhat familiar, but communicates a general happiness that is universal. I like the directionality of hatched marks in the drawing. As seen in many of your other pieces, the energetic lines pull away from the center of the faces/heads, keeping the facial expressions from reading as stilted and formal. I also enjoy the manner in which the subject fills the picture plane. The small amount of background coming through in a brown sliver on the far upper right is suitable warm, and harmonizes with the fleshy color palette. While I imagine these works could have been produced from photographic sources, I do not see a Photorealist approach in the sense of uniform, flattened detailing. There is hierarchy in the decisions being made, to emphasize character over likeness.
I really adore how much character and personality this portrait has.
From NY to the U.K., the most comprehensive and respected source for income & exhibition opportunities.
