Curator’s Comments:
This seemingly untitled piece came up in a random sampling of images, and I’m glad it encouraged me to take a closer look. While I had admired your expressive illustrations previously for their contained energy through scrawling line work, the smooth manipulation of the subject here is its strength. Rather than inject a nervous energy into the lines, the viewer is confronted matter-of-factly with three figures precariously anchored in space. The elongation of the picture’s format heightens the spatial tension, while the arrangement is faintly humorous. The turn of each subject’s head, from the caped figure with the sword turning away; the horse facing right and smaller bottom figure facing left towards the cliff adds interest and subtly rotates our viewing of the environment. I also enjoy the right half of the painting, interrupting the opposing stacking of the tethered bodies; human and animal. The opening up of white space in the bottom of the composition deftly leaves the subjects – and viewer- hanging. The narrative piece fully delivers in its skillful depiction of the subject, and bold arrangement of space.
From NY to the U.K., the most comprehensive and respected source for income & exhibition opportunities.
